A 4G-only network from day one
Jio launched as a pure 4G network and has never operated 2G or 3G spectrum of its own. Every Jio voice call runs over LTE (VoLTE), so when you lose signal you fall back to nothing — there is no slower generation to catch you. In practice that means coverage gaps show up as no service, not as edge-of-3G speeds.
True 5G is standalone
Jio’s 5G is standalone: a new 5G core rather than a bolt-on to the 4G network. Where you get signal, download speeds of 150–600 Mbps are common in tests like this one, and idle latency to Indian servers usually drops compared with 4G. Coverage is still city-by-city, so your result depends entirely on where you are.
Everyone shares the tower
Jio’s unlimited plans are popular, and all those users share the same tower capacity in your area. That is why a Jio speed test can read 60 Mbps at 9 AM and 8 Mbps at 9 PM without anything being wrong with your phone.

Evening congestion (7–11 PM)
In dense neighbourhoods, peak-hour usage splits tower capacity between everyone nearby. Speeds drop, jitter climbs, and online games feel worse even though signal bars look identical.
Correctif — Run this test at different hours — your last result is saved locally, so you can compare. If mornings are fast and evenings aren’t, it’s congestion, not your phone. Schedule big downloads off-peak.
CGNAT means strict NAT for gaming
Jio mobile sits behind carrier-grade NAT — you don’t get a public IP address. In games that report NAT type, you’ll often see Moderate or Strict, and hosting a private lobby, running a server, or some peer-to-peer voice chat setups will misbehave.
Correctif — For matchmaking on dedicated servers (Valorant, BGMI, CoD) CGNAT rarely matters. If you need to host, look for games that use relay servers, or test whether a broadband line suits you better — no mobile setting fixes a strict NAT.
Your phone is choosing the wrong network
Battery saver, an old APN profile, or sitting one band away from a weak 5G cell can quietly cap you at a fraction of what the tower offers — and add jitter on top.
Correctif — Before judging your connection: disable battery saver, set network preference to 5G, move near a window, then retest. If numbers jump, the network was fine — the device was the problem.
Verdict gaming

Jio is perfectly playable for competitive gaming when your test shows ping under 50 ms and jitter under 15 ms — most Indian-hosted game servers are reachable within that. The two caveats are evening jitter on congested towers and strict NAT from CGNAT, which blocks hosting but not normal matchmaking. If your gaming sessions happen after 8 PM, test at 8 PM: that result is the one that matters.

It measures your real connection the way your browser uses it — multi-stream downloads from the nearest Cloudflare edge, twenty latency probes, and upload over HTTP. Expect results within roughly ±5–10% of line speed. Test over Jio’s own 4G/5G (turn Wi-Fi off) to measure the SIM, or over JioFiber Wi-Fi to measure the broadband.
Why is Jio internet slow in the evening?
Peak-hour congestion. Jio’s unlimited plans share tower capacity in your area, and 7–11 PM is when most people stream and game at once. If your morning test shows 40 Mbps and your evening test shows 6 Mbps at the same spot, the tower is saturated — fixes are practical: move location, prefer 5G, or shift heavy downloads to off-peak hours.
Why is my Jio upload speed so low?
Mobile networks allocate far more spectrum to downloading than uploading, so Jio upload typically lands at 3–20 Mbps while download hits 30+. Video calls and cloud backups feel it first. If upload is under 2 Mbps with good signal, retest away from Wi-Fi and battery-saver modes — otherwise it’s normal for the network.
Why is my Jio ping high in games?
Three usual causes: you’re far from the game server (Indian players often connect to Mumbai or Singapore), your traffic is on a congested tower, or your phone is holding onto a weak band. Run this test to get idle ping and jitter, then compare a result near a window with one deep inside the house.
